ABB Inc's Sooner Park Community Project

ABB Inc. decided in the summer of 2001 to perform a Community Project and selected Sooner Park because of the many activies held at the park each year. They believed the appearance of the Park would be enhanced with the addition of a water pool and dam, with water re-circulating from the existing pond to an upstream pool. This would provide a running stream over the dam back to the pond. The pool created by the dam would be bordered by the same rock used to build the dam and would be "stepped" to accent the flow of water provided. This basic idea was expanded to include 2 dams and a fountain at the water outlet in the upsteam pool.

A committee the company organized the project and planning tasks and functions were assigned to various groups. ABB asked the City to provide any permits needed and some assistance with preparation work needed before the project actually began and then approached area merchants for the material needed to complete the job.

When all the preparation work was done, all 70 of ABB's Engineering employees devoted one days labor to the drainage project. Each employee had their own responsibilities to complete. By the end of the day, Sooner Park had a beautiful addition to its landscape and no longer had a wet bog leading to its lake.
ABB employees converted this former boggy area into a perpetually running stream, with two water fall areas.
The City hopes other area businesses will accept the challenge and example set by ABB and add even more beauty to our Parks.
